Gas Safe Engineers

Why Use A Gas Safe Engineer?

Formally known as CORGI, the Gas Safe Register is the UK's official list of gas businesses and engineers who are registered to work safely and legally on boilers, cookers, fires and all other gas appliances. By law all gas engineers must be on the Gas Safe Register.

According to Gas Safe Register, around 1.1 million jobs are carried out each year by illegal fitters not registered with Gas Safe, putting your family and your home at risk of fires and explosions. According to the NHS website there are 60 deaths every year in the uk from accidental carbon monoxide poisoning. Using a qualified Gas Safe registered engineer can protect you from using an unsafe appliance.

Every year Gas Safe Register runs a gas safety week to raise awareness. This years advice is:

  1. Get your gas appliances safety checked every year by a Gas Safe registered engineer
  2. You can sign up to a reminder service and find out about the gas dangers in your area by visiting StayGasSafe
  3. Check the front and back of your engineer's Gas Safe Register ID card, making sure they are qualified to do the specific type of gas work you require
  4. Check gas appliances for warning signs that they are not working correctly. A lazy yellow flame, black marks or stains around the appliance, or too much condensation in the room are all signs that your appliances aren't safe
  5. Know the six main symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning: headaches, dizziness, nausea, breathlessness, collapse and loss of consciousness
